Dear :

I am pleased to invite you to join the festivities of the LaRocque Bey School of Dance Theater as we celebrate 50 years of dance in Harlem at the world famous Apollo Theater, Harlem USA.  The event scheduled on Father’s day, Sunday, June 20, 2010 will celebrate the legacy of our late founder, Mr. LaRocque Bey and help raise needed funds to continue his legacy of providing Harlem’s children, teens, adults and seniors with exceptional training and education in dance, music, and theatrical arts with a cultural awareness.  I ask you to join us as a sponsor or purchase a ticket to the event.  All funds raised will directly support the aforementioned programs.

Forty-Nine years ago, the late LaRocque Bey established the LaRocque Bey School of Dance Theatre Inc. in the Harlem Community. The school remains the oldest African dance school in the United States. At the time of its founding, the school offered dance classes in traditional African Dance for as little as 25 cents per lesson in the Harlem-based Lincoln Projects 49 years ago.  In 1967, the school was incorporated as a nonprofit, tax exempt 501© 3 organization.  Since its inception, the school has taught well over 15,000 students, some of whom have appeared in and on Broadway productions, as well as television, videos, recordings and movies. Today, under the direction of Brother Jerome Hunter, LaRocque Bey’s nephew, the school continues to thrive, but of course at more than 25 cents per lesson, providing cultural enrichment and affordable dance classes, such as African, tap, ballet, modern jazz, drums aerobics & body toning to name a few of  the dance disciplines offered to all residents of the community. To continue the legacy of LaRocque Bey, we need your partnership.

Enclosed is an event form delineating the various ways you can support this historic event.  We will follow up with you in the near future about your participation in LaRocque Bey’s 50 years celebration.  In the meantime, if you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me at (212) 531-4000 or at larocquebey@aol.com. Culturally Yours,

Brother Jerome Hunter
